Living an intentional life is, for me, one of the most satisfying ways to live. By steeping my days with what I most want, I end the day feelings satisfied by my life. But, setting an intention is really only the beginning. So, if you are wondering how to make your intentions your reality, I have a little metaphor for you.
Let’s say that a new vintage consignment shop opens in a part of town that you always get lost in so you avoid it like the plague. But, your girlfriend tells you that she has found some really amazing stuff (hello, vintage jewelry and handbags!) and that you must go, immediately. Being your resourceful self, you decide to use your GPS to help you get there.
So, you get dressed, put on your favorite lipstick, and hop in your car.
You plug the address into the GPS and wait for Gina (that is what I call my GPS) to tell you the directions. And, she is more than willing to guide the way. In fact, she is waiting to give you exactly what you want.
But, you just sit there.
In your driveway.
Wondering why the hell you aren’t getting to the shop of your hearts desire.
You have every intention of going there but your actions say otherwise.
So, you never actually get there.
See, plugging the address into the GPS is like your intention; it sets the scene for where you want to go. But you’ve got to actually drive if you want to end up with a beautiful new vintage brooch.
But if you commit to where you are going by taking action, you end up where you want to go.
Can we say sparkly vintage brooch? Or whatever.
So, don’t just sit around making vision boards, take it to the next step by figuring out what you need to do in order to have what you want, and do that. If you face any obstacles along the way, know that this is just a sign that some healing needs to happen. Do the healing work you need to do and then keep moving towards your intentions and goals by taking action.
Because the truth is, intention + action = magic.
