The Energy Spectrum of Human Design Gate 14
All energy in the Human Design chart exists on a spectrum of potential.
On the “positive” end of the spectrum, Human Design Gate 14 is the energy for prosperity, dream work, and inspiration. It shows you the path for making money by following your dreams.
On the “negative” spectrum, Human Design Gate 14 is the energy for getting stuck in the fear that you won’t be able to make your dreams come true. This can create a life where you feel stuck doing things you hate for the sake of making money.
If you don’t like the results that the “negative” side of the spectrum is creating in your life, you can raise the frequency of Gate 14 with a number of boundaries, practices, and tools.
(I cover the practices for the gates of your incarnation cross in the Human Design Map.)
But, the most important thing to raise the frequency of gate 14 is to invest time and energy into knowing what your dreams are and taking aligned action towards them.

My Personal Experience with Human Design Gate 14 (Gene Key 14)
Gate 14 is undefined in my chart and as a Projector aura type, so is my sacral center. When I am unconscious of my energy boundaries, I can easily get caught up in sacral energy and amplify it.
When someone is on the “high” end of the spectrum, that experience is amazing. But when they are on the “low” end, not so much.
I don’t say that as judgment, of course. Anytime we are on the “low” end of the frequency spectrum, it is an invitation to love ourselves more deeply. And, since unconditional love is the whole point, nothing has gone wrong, even when our minds judge it that way.
All that said, my experience with amplifying gate 14 energy is that, more often than not, we are on the “low” end of the spectrum.
I think it is safe to say that, collectively, we have tucked our dreams away and are exchanging the precious moments of our lives for money.
We get messages to that effect in the Human Design Map portal almost daily. Money seems to be a huge point of contention when learning to trust ourselves and becoming more authentic in our lives.
And, despite what late stage capitalism has conditioned us to believe, it doesn’t even really matter what the level of income is. That inner conflict doesn’t go away when you make more money.
I know that sounds like an incredibly privileged thing to say. Even five years ago, I would have told you to fuck off if you told me that my struggles wouldn’t go away if I had more money.
But, bare with me here because I’m not talking about the outer realities of money. Having more money absolutely does make our circumstances easier to navigate.
There is no denying that. As one of my old mentors used to say, money can solve A LOT of problems.
What I’m saying though, is that our inner relationship with money doesn’t change just because we have more money. Changing the way we think, feel, and behave with money is a matter of deconditioning.
Our relationship with money is one of the many reasons why Human Design, and what I do with the Human Design Map, is mission critical. If money is “the reason” we aren’t expressing our most authentic selves, and therefore making our highest contribution in the world, that is a problem (says my 5th line!).
Everyone on the planet has to deal with money, and therefore has to deal with the conditioning of their culture around money.
The Human Design system gives us a map that points us in the direction of our full potential. And when you are looking at it clearly and in an empowered way, it helps us to see our inner patterns with compassion, forgiveness, and Grace. With money, and with everything else!
All that said, inside the map portal, I’ve worked with people from every income bracket. And while the dollars in the bank might be different, the story is eerily similar:
- There isn’t a way to make money doing what I love.
- I have to be responsible. If I did what I love, I’d be broke.
- I’ll enjoy my life when I retire.
There is this general attitude of work now and play later.
We try to prove ourselves by pushing ourselves, long hours, and soul-sucking work. With each punch of the clock, we collect our “enoughness” gold stars and earn our keep. We run ourselves into the ground and connect with others by complaining about our jobs and lives.
We are frustrated, bitter, angry, and disappointed. We are anxious, worried, and depressed. We are, slowly but surely, killing ourselves to make a buck.
In order to thrive and create prosperity, we have to start being honest with ourselves about our internal patterns with money and work. And in doing so, we will have the energy to empower our friends, family, communities, and the collective.
As above, so below.
And it starts with individuals who are willing to step up, say fuck the system, and make changes. You don’t have to burn your whole life to the ground.
In fact, in the Human Design Map integration course, I recommend micro changes. A plane that shifts 1° ends up in an entirely different place.
But we will only see changes in the outer world by harnessing the full power of our inner energy. You cannot empower others if you yourself aren’t empowered. Individual circtuity, which gate 14 is a part of, shows us that.
And listen, it doesn’t matter if you have gate 14 defined in your chart or not.
One of the things I love about the Human Design chart is that it is showing us that we are everything. There is nothing in the chart that you do not have access to.
You are worthy of every gift in the chart. You have everything you need to thrive. It’s just a matter of recognizing it and choosing it.
And, as with all things, it’s about taking an honest look at the shadows that are hiding under the stories of limitation and lack. Not as a way of bypassing our lived experiences, but as a way to love ourselves through them.
For me, personally, one of my biggest shadows with gate 14 (and the sacral as a whole) was around being seen as lazy.
I never wanted anyone to think that I was lazy or that I wasn’t working hard enough. And I did everything in my power to make sure people thought that I was working my fingers to the bone.
It began to unravel for me when I started my business in 2008. This was long before I knew anything about Human Design and certainly hadn’t seen even close to the success I’ve seen with the map.
I was working for myself, from home, for the first time in my life. Within a matter of weeks, I started to notice a really weird habit-forming.
While my husband was at work, I’d talk to my clients, work on my website, and create enough content for lifetimes.
But no matter how much I got done that day or how many hours I’d actually spent working, I always made sure that my husband would see me working when he got home.
I started to notice that I didn’t want him to think that I hadn’t been working.
When he got home, I’d make a big, dramatic scene about my day of work. I’d let out a big sigh and complain about how tired I was. And never, did I ever, celebrate where there was ease, joy, and fulfillment.
Eventually, I realized that this shadow of laziness was holding me back.
I finally understood that if I wanted to prosper, I’d have to let him think whatever he wanted about my work ethic. If I were to have any rest at all, I’d have to let him see me rest. And, in some cases, I’d have to let him see me as being truly lazy.
But, even more importantly, I had to own the part of me that doesn’t actually want to work my fingers to the bone. I had to own the part of me that only wants to work a couple days a week, take long breaks, and cut out early.
Having Human Design Gate 54 in my midheaven contributes to this understanding, for sure. I had to own the part of me that loves to love her work, to use it as a spiritual practice, and to make mind blowing money doing it.
I’ve had to own the part of me that wants to focus on the value I create in the world rather than the amount of hours I put in. The part that wants to help as many people as possible, with as little effort as possible. The one who trusts myself and lets my inner wisdom guide me.
Piece by piece. Moment by moment. Shadow by shadow.
I had to start letting go of the conditioning to work my fingers to the bone and start making choices that aligned with true prosperity, even if those changes seemed tiny at first.
Because my sacral and gate 14 are undefined, this will likely always be a place where I am becoming wiser and wiser. I’ll fail, fuck up, and get it wrong.
As they say, new level, same devil.
But, I’m here for it. And I can show you how it’s done.
