The Energy Spectrum of Human Design Gate 17
All energy in the Human Design chart exists on a spectrum of potential.
On the “positive” end of the spectrum, Human Design Gate 17 is the energy for finding logical solutions, answers, and ideas. Gate 17 is aware that everyone thrives when everyone thrives, and tends to be fair, unbiased, and committed to finding win-wins with it’s solutions.
On the other end of the spectrum, Human Design Gate 17 is the energy for being dogmatic, authoritarian, or mentally inflexible. It can create disorder or disharmony by being narrow-minded can easily get trapped in black and white thinking.
If you don’t like the results that the “negative” side of the spectrum is creating in your life, you can raise the frequency of Gate 17 with a number of boundaries, practices, and tools.
(I cover the practices for the gates of your incarnation cross in The Human Design Map.)
The most important thing to raise the frequency of gate 17 is to notice your patterns of mental inflexibility, question them. See what results they are creating in your life and learn to reprogram your mental patterns when they aren’t creating the results you want.
My personal contemplation of Human Design Gate 17 (Gene Key 17)
I don’t have gate 17 defined in my chart but it is significant to me in a couple of important ways:
- I do have gate 62 (the other side of the channel) defined in my incarnation cross.
- Gate 17 bridges the small split between my throat and ajna.
So, those two things combined make gate 17 the most electromagnetically attractive gate to me.
Good thing I married a man with gate a hanging gate 17, LOL.
And it’s been an interesting experience to get to know this gate.
What I discovered is that I was holding a lot of “not-self” themes around gate 17.
I always thought that I needed to have an opinion about EVERYTHING. And I would find myself bitter and resentful towards others who had strong opinions. I wanted to have strong opinions! I would even find myself making up opinions just to fit in or be “heard.”
But, what I’ve come to understand is that, like all undefined parts of the chart, I only need strong opinions sometimes – when it actually matters. And when expressing an opinion is important, I can do it without making other opinions wrong.
I think gate 61 in my unconscious sun plays a bit of a role here because that gate has really shown me that Truth is subjective rather than objective. Each and every one of us is weaving our personal fabric of truth with our thoughts, feelings, and actions.
The thing that I think it is this understanding has actually given me the energy necessary to do what I do with Human Design.
You’ve probably noticed by now that the HD space is FULL of opinions and people who are ready to tell you that you are doing it wrong.
And I’ve had a ton of people “coming at me” with how my approach to HD is wrong.
What I know, for sure, is that there is no way I’d have been able to handle that if I was attached to my own opinion being “right.”
Instead, I can take full ownership that I’m not trying to be right.
As a 5/2, I’m trying to make Human Design simple, practical, and magical with the ultimate intention of helping others trust their own inner wisdom. If the work I do helps others do that, even if what they discover doesn’t match what their chart says, I’ve done my job.
Some people care more about being technical, dogmatic, or in perfect accordance with every word Ra ever spoke.
And here is the real gate 17 magic:
Being technical, dogmatic, or by the book isn’t wrong. It’s just another way and it isn’t up to us to decide what works for others.
And, even if what they are doing isn’t working, it isn’t our job to “save” people from themselves.
We each get to be our own hero.
The same is true for anything people hold strong opinions on. And these days, there is plenty of that to go around.
My hope and prayer is that I will continue to deepen into non-attachment around my opinions and open more to allowing others to think, literally, whatever they want about whatever they want.
Now it’s your turn to contemplate Gate 17
When you stand in the truth that the gifts of the 17 are always available to you (whether it’s defined in your chart or not)…
Are you attached to your opinions?
Do you ever find yourself trapped in black and white thinking?
In what ways do you benefit when you believe that you are right and others are wrong?
What if you let go of the idea that opinions are either right or wrong?
I encourage you to take some time with these questions. Take them out into your world and let their answers reveal themselves to you. Intend for deeper levels of clarity about gate 17.
