The Positive and Negative Sides of Human Design Gate 33 All energy in the Human Design chart exists on a spectrum of potential .
On the “positive” end of the spectrum, Human Design Gate 33 is the energy for making ample space for reflection. Gate 33 believes that there is beauty in all things, including painful memories from the past. If you are only willing to see it, and will allow it, experiences and memories of the past can be alchemized into wisdom.
On the “negative” end of the spectrum, Human Design Gate 33 is the energy for isolation or hiding from the world, especially when the wisdom of harmful collective events has not revealed itself yet. It can act out of fear or anger in an attempt to force wisdom onto others or throw the past into the faces of others.
The most important thing to raise the frequency of gate 33 is to learn how to hold space for the discomfort that comes from waiting for the wisdom of the past to reveal itself.
My Personal Experience with Human Design Gate 33 (Gene Key 33) Gate 33 is in the throat center of the Human Design chart. When we are looking at the throat center, we are always looking at how the energy that swirls around inside of us (thoughts, memories, visions, feelings, emotions, intuition, instincts) manifest in the outer world; it’s the impact our words and actions have on the people, places, and things around us.
And while “impact” and the throat center are often associated with Manifestor types in Human Design, the throat center actually reveals a different story.
Most of the gates in the throat are, in fact, projected energy . Human Design Gate 20 is a bit of an oddball because while in projector types it is projected, it is also one part of the only manifesting generating channel, the 34-20.
To me, as a Projector type with a heavily defined throat, that tells us something important about the throat and how it impacts the world.
All types of energy – projected, manifested, and generated (via mani gen) – reveal themselves to the world through the throat. And, at its core, all throat energy is about transformation, which is distinct from evolution.
Evolution happens in the root center of the Human Design chart. It’s about how our genes – the blueprint of our bodies – change over long periods of time. It is the adaptations that ensure our survival in the sometimes very harsh climates of Earth.
Transformation, on the other hand, is more rapid and is about the spiritual structures that underpin how we show up in the world.
To take this even a bit further, if we look at the throat center in the context of its correspondences to the Kabbalah Tree of Life, we see that it corresponds to the invisible sphere on the tree known as Daath.
In High Magick circles, when our consciousness rises to the level of Daath, it is called crossing the abyss.
Crossing the abyss is the moment we become aware that we are one with the Divine. Not just theoretically aware, either. It is an awareness that you can no longer forget. And it requires you to walk very differently in the world when you know that everything is you .
Spiritually speaking, it is the “final frontier” on the way to embodying unity consciousness (aka enlightenment) the way masters like Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, etc did.
Enlightenment occurs in Kether, which corresponds to the head center in Human Design. The space between Daath and Kether removes the miniscule specks of dust off the mirror of your consciousness and makes it pristinely clean.
And, that brings me back to gate 33 and its pivotal role in our spiritual transformation.
Gate 33 is undefined in my chart, which means it is a place of amplifying patterns, learning, and letting go of attachment. It is (hopefully!) a place where wise use will become the norm.
Whether that happens for me in this lifetime or not, what I can say for sure is that it is crystal clear to me that the world desperately needs the brilliance of Gate 33.
We, as a collective, are starting to become aware of how trauma from the past holds us back in the present. Unhealed trauma not only puts a halt on our evolution as a species, but also our transformation as souls.
It is obvious to me that if we don’t have the capacity to process the wild and twisted shit that happens in this world, we stay stuck. And here is the critical part – we cannot do that alone. We need others to hold space for us in the processing.
And most of the people alive right now never had that. The high frequencies of gate 33 have been sorely missing.
We’ve been so stuck in survival most that our culture pushes “getting over it”, moving on, and candy-coated forgiveness. And that just makes things worse.
We need safe space to breathe, reflect, and process. We must rebuild trust with our body, nervous system, and authentic emotions.
We need to feel seen, heard, and understood in our vulnerability. We need support and people who are willing to hold healing space, rather than to try to jump in and “fix” things.
And that is what gate 33 does.
I am grateful for the people in my life that can hold that kind of space for me. I absolutely would not be where I am today without them. And, it is my intention to hold that kind of space inside my business.
At its core, Human Design is a path of transformation. And we have to confront some big truths when we make the holy decision to trust ourselves and our inner wisdom as the north star of our lives.
It takes courage. And compassion. And an immense capacity to feel all of the things.
My deepest prayer is that, as a society, we aren’t just evolving, but also transforming. I hope that we will come to undoubtedly understand that traumatized people cannot expand into the most aligned version of themselves. And that what the world needs most is more people who are walking the path of surrendered alignment.
I can see it happening. In some circles, it’s even cool to talk about trauma and healing wounds from the past.
In the meantime, I’ll be over here healing my shit, leaning on the people who know how to hold space, and doing the same for others.
