The official name for Human Design Gate 45 is The Gate of The Gatherer. But I call it The Money Steward because its primary action is to be fully aware of both the spiritual and mundane power that money holds and wield it with equity.

The Energy Spectrum of Human Design Gate 45
All energy in the Human Design chart exists on a spectrum of potential.
On the “positive” end of the spectrum, Human Design Gate 45 is the energy for leadership, money and wellbeing. To Gate 45 money is power and it is a master at managing, using, and distributing material resources (especially money) in service to family, friends, and community. Gate 45 is fully aware of both the spiritual and mundane power that money holds and wields it with equity.
On the “negative” end of the spectrum, Human Design Gate 45 is the energy for hoarding money or resources. It may try to knock others down so that it may rise up. Or it might even unconsciously stay broke in an attempt to prove spiritual “worthiness.”
If you don’t like the results that the “negative” side of the spectrum is creating in your life, you can raise the frequency of Gate 45 with a number of boundaries, practices, and tools.
(I cover the practices for the gates of your incarnation cross in the Human Design Map.)
The most important thing to raise the frequency of gate 45 is to look for a win-win in all situations and remember that when one member of the kingdom is suffering, the whole kingdom suffers. When every member of the kingdom is thriving, the whole kingdom thrives. This will give you an empowered relationship with material resources.
My personal contemplation of Human Design Gate 45 (Gene Key 45)
In my post on Human Design Gate 54, I shared that I’ve been on quite the spiritual healing journey with money. My midheaven is in Gate 54 and I’ve come to see my relationship with money, especially as it relates to my business, as a critical part of my spiritual path.
Other than relationships, it is how I expand my consciousness and step into deeper and deeper awareness of my Divine I AM.
True to gate 45 benig undefined in my chart, managing money and resources has been one of the greatest sources of wisdom in my life.
And it started when I was pretty young.
When I was 19 years old, my car was repossessed because I didn’t make the payments. I didn’t know jack shit about how money actually works, had absolutely zero sense of the value I could bring to the world, and, most importantly, didn’t really understand the consequences of my choices.
I dodged the repo man for about a week before he finally caught up with me. I “ruined” my credit and hurt people I loved in the process.
Talk about gathering wisdom!
I came away from that experience with a belief that I am irresponsible with money. Some might argue that this kind of belief is the result of being socialized as a woman in a patriarchal society.
And perhaps that is true. But, what I know for sure is that I’ve carried that belief with me, up and around the spiral staircase of consciousness.
I heal a part of it and, almost like clockwork, it comes back around for deeper healing and a broader integration.
Things really got interesting when my income dramatically increased in a short period of time. (Shout out to recognizing myself, calling myself out, and owning the value of my innate gifts with Human Design Map!)
Something one of my mentors said many years ago started to come into focus. She said:
Having money can solve a lot of problems. And when you solve those problems, you can make a even bigger contribution in the world.
Talk about gate 45 vibes!
Having, making, and being a steward of money is a privilege. Meaning, when you have plenty of money, there are things you do not have to think about in order to survive and thrive.
You don’t have to worry about how the mortgage will get paid. Or how food will end up on the table, the price of eggs, or what store has this or that on sale. The lights staying on becomes a given rather than a game of Peter and Paul.
All of that energy can be channeled into other things.
And this is where it gets interesting to me because I did not have the privilege of money for most of my life. I was dirt poor as a kid and most of my adulthood was deciding what would get paid and what wouldn’t.
And like so many of my fellow spiritual seekers and creatives, in additiona to believing I was irresponsible with money, I also believed that money makes you evil.
But evil is a story. And money just another mirror is for who you are, who you believe yourself to be, and what you value.
As my income has increased, to the point of becoming the “breadwinner” in our household, all of my beliefs of being irresponsible with money and that there are right and wrong ways to spend money have come to the surface.
I’ve become deeply aware of how often I tell myself I shouldn’t be spending money on this or that. I beat myself up when I didn’t foreshadow a financial emergency that pops up. I obsess over the percentage of income I donate to charities.
I notice the story that I am a terrible steward of money.
Most recently, I’ve come to terms with the reality that this is my inner work. I’ll be healing layers and layers of that story until I take off the tight shoe called life.
The shame of the repossession will come back for a visit. I’ll be inivited to make amends and to let more and more go.
And, I’ll be reassessing my values, the things that matter, where my money goes and where it doesn’t.
I am not meant to be perfect at it. Money is a mirror and mirror must be polished often.
I’m leaning into trusting myself with money.
I can decide what “being responsible” with money looks like and how important that is to me.
I’m reveling in becoming a wise steward of money.
I’m learning to circulate money in alignment with my inner authority.
I’m using money to make a more authentic contribution. And I’m learning what that even means.
These are the identities that I’m stepping into. I’m leaning into becoming wise with this undefined energy. And I look forward to where I’ll go from here.
If you want to step into new identities that align with your design, you’ll love the Human Design Map. I’ll show you how this whole “becoming” thing works.
