The Positive and Negative Sides of Human Design Gate 48 All energy in the Human Design chart exists on a spectrum of potential .
On the “positive” end of the spectrum, Human Design Gate 48 is the energy for discovering the hidden layers and realms of what it means to be human. Gate 48 understands that you don’t become wise through education. You become wise through embodiment. With this understanding, it is empowered to explore the depths of life with curiosity and humility.
On the “negative” end of the spectrum, Human Design Gate 48 is the energy for pursuing knowledge and education as a way to buffer from emotions. It can lead to over-preparing, overplanning, and feeling inadequate in what you know. At its worst, it can abuse positions of power where others are looking to you for depth of wisdom.
Start noticing when you are feeling like a book worm or avoidant but don’t be an asshole to yourself. Treat yourself the way you would a small child – with love, curiosity, and understanding.
My Personal Experience with Human Design Gate 48 (Gene Key 48)In my human design , I have the full channel of the wavelength (48-16) defined. Gate 48 is defined in my conscious Pluto and gate 16 is defined in my conscious moon.
Your channels are a KEY part of your gifts. And by gifts, I don’t mean some woo-woo esoteric something or another. I mean the things people will literally pay you to share with them.
And we are about to go on a journey of exactly what I am experiencing with the 48-16. Like, in a “you can’t make this shit up kind of way.”
Once you see these things in your own chart, you cannot unsee them. And it changes everything because when you know what you are working with, you stop second-guessing and start moving with more confidence.
With that, channels are defined when both gates of the channel are defined. They are like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. One gate is the peanut butter and brings a very distinct essence. The other gate is the jelly and brings a very distinct essence. And they balance one another in a way that brings something completely new to the table.
So, in addition to being something you can likely get paid for, they are places where you naturally balance an opposing spectrum and express it in a fully integrated way (assuming that there is no conditioning preventing the integration).
In my case with the 48-16, the 48 is all about going into the depths of life to bring back wisdom. And gate 16 is all about mastering your craft through real world practice.
They balance one another out to create deep (48) mastery (16) in something. If we go too deep without real world practice, it diminishes our contribution. And if we try to perfect something without a depth of knowledge, we can spin our wheels in needless perfectionism.
That balance of knowing and doing is a key part of how I interpret Human Design. You’ll see the deep beauty of your gifts and start actually doing something with them in the real world. You won’t get lost in theory or spinning in perfectionism. You truly have too much to give to let your gifts go to waste.
Kabbalah and Human Design What most don’t know about human design channels, though, is that they also (indirectly) correspond to the “pathways” on the Kabbalah Tree of Life.
Kabbalah, Qabalah, and Cabalah are all based on the Tree of Life and I use them interchangeably to honor the various paths. It is one of the four systems that create the correspondence of the Human Design synthesis. This is part of why Human Design is so layered. When you work with your chart, you are working with the wisdom of multiple traditions at once.
Kabbalah is the original system from the Jewish tradition. Qabalah is the Western Esoteric (aka Hermetic) path often called Ceremonial Magick or High Magick. Cabbala is a christian mystic path. Both Qabalah and Cabbala are rooted in Kabbalah.
All of these are spiritual paths that lead to what is often called Enlightenment. But, you may also hear it called Moksha, Self-Realization, a United Will, Completing The Great Work, Oneness, I AM Consciousness, Crystalline Consciousness, Christ Consciousness, Unity Consciousness, and likely many others that I am either forgetting or just not aware of.
When I step back and look at Human Design through this lens, I interpret that to mean that when we surrender to the voice of our magnetic monopole (resides in the G center , aka our soul), we too are on the same path to enlightenment.
Back to my gate 48… Other than High Magick, which works the Kabbalah Tree of Life, and Alchemical Magick, Human Design is the only system that has held my interest long-term. I also studied chakras and astrology, but they never pulled me in as deeply.
And, quite honestly, had it not been for my study of High Magick and Alchemy, I don’t think Human Design would have captured my heart the way it has.
I first heard of Human Design years before I looked more deeply into it. And when it came back to me, I had spent over a decade studying energy healing, magick, and Qabalah. I’d become a coach and master energy healer in multiple modalities. And had even developed my signature energy healer method that would later be transformed into what is known as The Map Method.
So, I’d gone deep, to say the least. And when I saw the human design chart again, the connection between the flow of the bodygraph and the Kabbalah (Qabalah) Tree of Life hit me like a lightning bolt. It was like the chart felt alive in my body.
My immediate thought was:
Yep, that’s how energy flows.
My Journey with the 48 As I started to study Human Design, I saw how truly practical it is when it is broken down into understandable parts. It made Kabbalistic pathworking even more “workable.” Long magickal ceremonies were no longer required. I could simply look at things like my everyday decision making , how I aligned myself with opportunities , and the way I was contributing my gifts to do the great work .
Here is where things get interesting with the 48-16 channel.
The more deeply I studied, the more I saw that I was conditioned to believe that I was too deep. People told me that I was too intense. They said I should be able to do small talk and care more about trivial things.
All this for someone who often jokes that if we aren’t talking about God within 5 minutes of meeting, we cannot be friends.
In my work with Human Design, this conditioning showed up as holding back my depth of knowledge. In the beginning, I literally never would have written a post sharing all these layers of knowledge.
I was fully sold on the story that what I put out into the world needed to be easy to consume and that I needed to turn the dial down on my nerdy firehose.
That story was my roadblock. But instead of letting it silence me, I learned to see it as a new opportunity for self discovery and integration. What once held me back became a shortcut into clearer expression.
Because my depth was never the problem. It’s how you work with it. I have a way of making the mysterious nuances practical. I can clear up questions because I am balancing depth with real world practice. And so, for my people, the depth becomes a clear path forward instead of just more confusion.
But for people who aren’t ready, willing, or able, they are going to reject the depth.
Maybe you’ve felt the same. You know you have gifts, but you’ve been told they’re too much, or you’re unsure how to share them without toning them down.
Through my deconditioning, I see that it is actually my depth that the people I am here to serve actually love. They don’t want me to hold back and stay on the surface. They want me to take it out as far into the ether as possible. And, of course, bring it back down for some practical know-how.
My depth is one of the reasons people buy from me. Because I can take them to the deep end and help them make it real. And I don’t need to hide that. Because the people I am not here to serve will see themselves out.
When you choose to live in alignment like this, sharing your gifts fully instead of diluting them, you naturally align with the people who resonate. And the rest move on.
It’s so funny. I mean, seriously, Human Design is deep as fuck. It has so many layers to explore, especially when you consider the systems it synthesizes AND what it takes to actually integrate the insights into your life. You could spend lifetimes studying it, experimenting with it, and doing the brave work of integrating it. And still only scratch the surface.
As you can see, I’m done holding back. I am the firehose that brings balance to the depth and the practice. We could even say that Human Design is the perfect place to “channel” that 48-16 energy. It’s literally like I was made for it.
And the same is true for you. You were made for bringing your exact gifts into the world.
