The Energy Spectrum of Human Design Gate 56
All energy in the Human Design chart exists on a spectrum of potential.
On the “positive” end of the spectrum, Human Design Gate 56 is the energy for telling stories from its many adventures. Gate 56 finds humor, amusement, and delight in all things, even in places others might consider to be dark or cold. It has an inner knowing when it is time to step outside of its comfort zone and when it’s time to tell a better story about life.
On the “negative” end of the spectrum, Human Design Gate 56 is the energy for becoming easily distracted with shiny object syndrome, overstimulation, or boredom from insufficient stimulation. It can easily slip into playing the role of victim in life and or being unable to let go of outdated mental stories because it is emotionally attached to them.
If you don’t like the results that the “negative” side of the spectrum is creating in your life, you can raise the frequency of Gate 56 with a number of boundaries, practices, and tools.
(I cover the practices for the gates of your incarnation cross in the Human Design Map.)
The most important thing to raise the frequency of gate 56 is to foster great stories with travel, play, and enriching environments.

My Personal Experience with Human Design Gate 56 (Gene Key 56)
Gate 56.3 is defined, in detriment, in my unconscious Venus.
Venus shows us where we find beauty in life both literally and metaphorically. It infuses our values, our relationships, and what creates a sense of awe and wonder with life.
The unconscious placements in our chart show us the main “blocks” and shadows that prevent flow on the conscious side.
The third line is all about making mistakes, getting it wrong, and trial and error.
And in detriment shows up where we will tend to “default” to the “low” expression of and energy and where we are creating new possibilities.
(You’ll learn about gate nuances inside the Human Design Map portal.)
And, holy shit, this potent combination could not be more true for me.
My conscious Venus is Human Design Gate 43 – which is all about tuning in to the inner voice to create breakthroughs.
To me, one of the most stunning things about life is the breakthrough that happens when we are deeply attuned with our inner wisdom.
Of course, I think part of this is my Human Design Gate 57 (my conscious sun) talking because we can only trust our intuition when we create the space and ability to listen to it.
But, I have endless stories (no pun intended!) of witnessing breakthroughs happen with others as a direct result of going inside themselves. It brings tears to my eyes to watch these moments unfold.
(This is why I love Human Design so much. It is gives us map for our exploration.)
When it comes to my own breakthroughs, though, and opening up to the beauty of them, I can clearly see that I “block” them by telling myself really shitty stories. I make things mean really horrendous things sometimes.
(We all do!)
Those shitty stories close me down; I can’t see the beauty of life when I identify with them. They cloud my ability to listen to my inner voice and close my heart and mind to breakthrough.
Through trial and error, I am learning to have compassion (Human Design Gate 36) for myself and to give myself Grace (Human Design Gate 22) in the face of disempowering stories.
And I am reminding myself that a better story is always possible. I trust that I have the capacity to make mistakes in the stories I tell and to pass the wisdom I gather from that onto others.
But, as with everything, awareness is the key. And opening up a new possibility is about owning that I have what it takes to tell a new story.
Yes, by the mystery of Grace, I may often encounter situations where a shitty story will be my first instinct. And I can’t say for sure that I’ll never get caught in one of those shitty stories again. For that matter, I was caught in one on the morning I updated this post.
But, as one of my good friends often says, it isn’t about never again, It is about catching ourselves sooner.
So, for now, I’ll tell the story that I always have the capacity to change the story. Because that is my free will. If you want to learn how to tell a different story about yourself, grab your map and meet me in the portal.
