The Energy Spectrum of Human Design Gate 64
All energy in the Human Design chart exists on a spectrum of potential.
On the “positive” of the spectrum, Human Design Gate 64 is the energy for lovingly embracing the confusion inherent in illumination. Gate 64 lives in a land of infinite possibilities and potential and is only limited by its imagination. With this understanding of reality, Gate 64 is able to keep its eye on the highest potential and possibility – even when confusion clouds everything beyond the next step.
On the “negative” end of the spectrum, Human Design Gate 64 is the energy for putting pressure on itself to figure things out the moment it feels confused. With this approach, Gate 64 starts to shut down potential and possibilities. It can find itself worried about the “how” instead of focusing on the next step.
If you don’t like the results that the “negative” side of the spectrum is creating in your life, you can raise the frequency of Gate 64 with a number of boundaries, practices, and tools.

The most important thing to raise the frequency of gate 64 is to pay attention to your dreams; notice what thoughts, emotions, and possibilities they activate inside of you. And be mindful of your use of the question “how.” If you notice you are asking disempowering “how” questions (such as “how does this keep happening to me”) reframe the question to be more empowering.
My Personal Experience with Human Design Gate 64 (Gene Key 64)
Back when I was doing one-to-one coaching, I had a client with the full 64/47 channel of abstraction. She is a business coach for artists and we met because we did life coach training from the same place.
In that circle, confusion had a really bad wrap. And it was something we talked about many, many times.
With the 64/47, confusion was an old friend and she had gotten into the habit of shaming herself for feeling confused.
But, what I helped her see is that, as with all energy, gate 64 (aka the energy of confusion) is on a spectrum and all ends of the spectrum are available to us.
None of it is right or wrong. It just is. And the key to your energetic success is knowing how to work with your energy. That is what you’ll learn how to do when you get your Human Design Map.
Here is an example of what that might look like in “real” life with the 64:
Imagine for a moment that you have been training to climb a mountain for 6 months straight. You go all in on your training and you have a deep inner knowing that you will make it to the top. You are clear and ready.
But, on the day you plan to start the actual climb, it is an incredibly foggy day. You cannot see the top of the mountain.
On the “negative” end of the 64 spectrum, you would turn around and go home because you can’t see, with your actual eyes, how you will get to the top. You “indulge” in not knowing the how.
But, on the “positive” side of the 64 spectrum, you would proceed, knowing that you don’t need to see the whole path. You just need to trust that you will make it to the top of the mountain by putting one foot in front of the other. You stay in the possibility instead of in the fog.
See the difference?
When we let the metaphorical fog stop us from doing what we know to do and put one foot in front of the other, we never really get anywhere. But when we remember that fog is just a reminder that there is infinite potential on this crazy green spinning rock and that all we have to ever do is take the next step.

When my client began practicing that, it changed everything for her. No more shaming herself for feeling confused and instead, alchemizing that into potent fuel for the very next step.
Clarity, via the a-ha moment of the 47, is coming.
And, quite honestly, it has changed everything for me, too.
Gate 64 is undefined in my chart (though I do have a defined head) and, over the course of my life, I have learned that you really do only need to be able to see the next step.
And when you can surrender the how and just trust your knowing of the potential and possibilities, all tends to work itself out.
The right people will show up to help. The tools will become clear. The whole path will reveal itself at the end.
So, don’t let confusion stop you. And don’t let it become a weapon you use against yourself. Trust yourself. You do know what to do. Just put one foot in front of the other. And do that over and over again.
