Where to start with Human Design

Knowing where to start with Human Design can be pretty challenging because lets be honest: the Human Design rabbit hole is deep AF.

Your chart is literally filled to the brim with information about your personality, your soul, and your purpose. There is type, strategy, authority, profiles, incarnation cross, gates, lines, planets, variables, and on and on and on.

It can be pretty overwhelming in the beginning and some of the most common advice about getting started with Human Design isn’t right for many people.

The general consensus seems to be to start with your Human Design strategy and authority. They say that by living your strategy and authority, everything else will just fall into line. Some rant that the rest of the chart is just mind candy and will steer you in the wrong direction.

Up until recently, I advised people to start with strategy and authority, too.

It is true that if you fall so deep down the information rabbit hole that you never start actually experimenting, then you won’t really benefit from knowing your design.

But, recently, I realized that telling people to start with strategy and authority was doing a disservice and that I wasn’t being true to my actual experience with Human Design.

I didn’t start my experiment with strategy and authority. I started with the 5/2 profile in my tropical chart.

Profile lead me to explore the gates of my incarnation cross.

And it was exploring the incarnation cross gates that things really started to open up for me.

From there, I began to experiment with my strategy and authority.

Honestly, authority was the LAST thing that clicked in any kind of tangible way.

Once I had a feel for my authority, I dug deep into my prosperity sequence and venus sequence (a la the Gene Keys). I dabbled in looking at astrological aspects like stelliums, ascendants, Pluto, and midheaven.

Most recently, with the revelation of true sidereal Human Design (via the cosmic human design website), I’ve been exploring the differences between my tropical chart and my cosmic chart. I’ve been most interested in how these two charts seem to work together. The true sidereal vs tropical is a post for another day.

But, for now, what I can say with absolute certainty is this:

No matter what area of your chart you begin experimenting with, the rivers are different but the water is the same.

Your Human Design is a doorway into self-realization. It gives you a point of focus. It reveals a path of exploration.

The Human Design chart shows you where to look but it cannot tell you what to see.

The magic of Human Design is that it’s about discovering your INNER TRUTH. It’s about getting in tune with your INNER WISDOM. It’s about TRUSTING YOURSELF as the sovereign leader of your life.

And if that is what is happening when you work with your chart, that is more important than anything else.

Even if you don’t start with strategy and authority. Even if the results of your experiments don’t “match” your Human Design. Even if no human being on this planet agrees with what you discover.

You getting in touch with you IS THE POINT.

So, as you explore your Human Design, either with the WonderFULL Purpose Map or some of the other amazing resources out there, remember that it doesn’t really matter where you start. And it doesn’t really matter if your results match what your chart says.

Start with whatever part of the chart piques your interest.

Contemplate it.

Look for the spectrum of it in your life.

Experiment with it.

Use it to explore the depths of your mind, body, spirit, and emotions.

Work through the emotions and shadows that come up along the way.

And decide what to do based on the results that all of this creates for you.

Do you like the results? Keep going.
Do you dislike the results? Change something.

And above all else:

Trust yourself. You can’t go wrong that way.
