The Key to Making Human Design Affirmations Work For You

Affirmations are a great tool on your Human Design deconditioning journey because our beliefs directly impact the reality we create. And while our thoughts and beliefs aren’t everything and obsessing about them actually creates more harm than good, they are clues to your next steps.

What are beliefs, anyway?

Your beliefs are active thoughts; you use them as fuel for action. As you take more and more of that action, evidence starts to build up for the “truth” of that thought. And boom, you, as the Divine Fractal that you are, created a reality.

Sometimes, these beliefs are passed to you from the people in your life, and other times, they are “logical” conclusions that you come to based on your experiences.

And this isn’t just some new-age woo-woo bullshit.

It also isn’t personal. There isn’t anything wrong with you. Your thoughts and beliefs are not something to beat yourself up for.

This is simply how the brain works. In the field of psychology, it is called Cognitive Bias.

Whatever you call it, with enough action and evidence behind them, your beliefs create your subjective “Truth” even when there are a bazillion other possibilities.

When you believe your disempowering thoughts and affirm your shittiest stories, you will feel like ass, take misaligned action, and stay trapped in cycles of your not-self themes. And, being human and all, you will accept that chain of events as “just how life works” or “reality.”

How Affirmations Change Thoughts and Beliefs

The good news is that your brain is like plastic; it can be shaped and molded into new patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving, all the way up until you take your last breath.

You do that through intention. And, affirmations are just intentions in disguise.

Intentions and affirmations are simply a way to “activate” the alchemical process of believing something new; they are thoughts you choose on purpose.

When you cultivate empowering affirmations and intentions, you create possibility, activate new potentials, and initiate deeper trust in your inner wisdom.

To make your affirmations and intentions even more powerful, I recommend creating them based on the parts of your Human Design that you want to experiment with.

As you bring the energy of your intention (affirmation) down into your body, you will start to feel better, take more aligned actions, and come into mastery of your Human Design Signature.

Why Typical Ways of Working With Affirmations Do Not Work

In the meantime, it is important to know that just repeating affirmations in your mind isn’t going to do very much.

While I don’t believe that the mind is the enemy (like so many in traditional Human Design), you do have to bring your intentions “down” in order to see any effect from them. They must permeate your way of being and become embodied.

Remember, beliefs have action behind them. So, for an intention (affirmation) to become your embodied reality, it must be paired with a conscious way of showing up in the world. You must start doing some things and stop doing others.

Without that, they will just fester in your mind and become more evidence for any shitty beliefs you may be holding about yourself, life, other people, or even that thing that some call God.

Action, in the “real” world, is how you actually build belief and create a life that is full of potential and possibility.

How to Effectively Work with Your Human Design Affirmations

This process works for any kind of affirmation. But, because our Human Design chart has so much to show us about what our authentic contribution looks like in the world, it is a great place to start when creating intentions and affirmations.

  1. Create an intention (affirmation) based on an area that you are working to decondition in your Human Design.

    I’ll give you a full set of new beliefs for your type + strategy, authority, profile, and all four gates of your incarnation cross in the Human Design Map.
  2. Make a list of your current habits and actions that do not align with the intention.

    Because of the way the brain works, you have years, maybe even decades, of behavior behind your current habits and actions. When you’ve anchored in your new intentions, those old ways won’t just disappear. In fact, they will become illuminated by the fires of alchemy.
  3. Notice the urge to act in misaligned ways and, instead of just falling back into that old way, pause and allow the emotion (energy in motion) behind the behavior to become clear.
  4. Allow the emotion to be present in your body — without judgment.
  5. Notice the inner wisdom that the emotion reveals.

    The misaligned habit and action that you have been taking are “bound up” inside the wisdom of the emotion. It shows you what aligned action looks like and why you aren’t taking those actions.

    What is the emotion showing you about your life, way of being, and beliefs about yourself? More specifically, how would your action change if you were to honor your inner wisdom, instead of acting in the old ways?

    The answer to those questions will lead you to an unconscious and/or rejected part of yourself called a shadow. These shadow parts are your “blocks” and hold the exact energy you need in order to take action that aligns with your inner wisdom.

  6. Bring the shadow into the light of consciousness by showering it with love and acceptance.

    As mentioned in the previous point, the shadow you discover is the exact energy you need in order to move forward in an aligned way. These parts of yourself are parts you have rejected in an attempt to be safe and loved by the people around you.

    In order to bring them into the light of consciousness and access the true potential of their energy, you must understand, love, and accept them. Recognize their value and bring them back into your awareness as a valid part of you.

    This process may trigger grief or regret; if that happens, it is essential to process the grief and let it heal you. You may also need to revisit your original intention. Sometimes, our intentions get “clouded” by what we think is possible because of shadow parts.
  7. With the shadows brought fully into your loving awareness, begin to choose actions that are aligned with your intentions.
  8. Repeat until the action feels “natural.”
  9. Celebrate your success.

    This is a sorely missing piece for so many people. As Human Design Gate 2 shows us, a part of the human experience is allowing ourselves to fully process the beauty of receiving what we want. And truly celebrating the fruits of our healing.

  10. Revisit your original intention, expand it even more, and repeat.

    This process is ongoing. You aren’t supposed to “be done.” Our intentions (affirmations) just get bigger. That is what it means to be an expanding fractal of the Divine.

As you go through the process with your intentions and affirmations, your “belief” will build and your brain will automatically begin to notice what is possible for you. Once you understand the energetics (the process I just laid out) behind how to make affirmations work, you’ll be able to apply them to anything in your life.
