I’ve noticed a theme happening inside the map portal and we need to have a bigger conversation about it.
My clients have been asking for help with a challenge they are facing, like, someone doesn’t like them, they have this or that intuitive experience, or their marketing message isn’t landing. And then they will say something like:
I have mercury in gate 39. Is that why I rub people the wrong way?
I’m a projector. Is that why nobody likes my posts on Instagram?
I’m a 5/1. Is that why people project their trauma onto me?
The answer is never yes. Even when it seems “obvious” that this or that placement is the “cause” of their problem.
The answer is always…
You are rubbing people the wrong way because you are a human being having a completely normal human experience. Some people are not going to like you. Yes, even if you had, say, gate 25 in your mercury.
Nobody is liking your post on instagram because you are a human being having a completely normal human experience. (And algorithms are mind-fuckery of the highest order.) Yes, even if you were a manifestor.
People project their trauma onto you because you are a human being having a completely normal human experience. The human brain projects disintegrated stuff as a coping skill. Yes, even if there are no 5th lines in your chart at all.
The thing is, as humans, we look for reasons when we are suffering. We tend to think that if we had an explanation, it would make everything better. Our mind convinces us that knowing why would be the panacea of relief.
And, no pun intended, that tendency is why so many of us are drawn to systems like Human Design.
We are looking for an explanation for why our suffering exists. Why things go “wrong.” Why this or that really fucked up thing happened. A way of making sense of things.
We are looking for relief from being human.
But when there are no obvious answers, it actually keeps us stuck. Spinning in our heads instead of actually solving the (very normal) problems we are facing.
And it’s been happening since the dawn of time. Just watch a single philosophical debate and you’ll see the mind fuck of it all.
All that to say, you are unique in many ways — but your need to make sense of things isn’t one of them. You’re simply human.
And listen. I’m the ultimate hype man for Human Design. I love it. It has so much offer you.
It will absolutely help you connect some dots. It will help you give language to things you always understood about yourself but were never able to put into words. It can help you explain your gifts, express your message, and understand all the ways you get in your own way.
But not because it is giving you a reason for the way things are.
It’s because it is giving you a set of tools for exploring, understanding, and experimenting with. It is a map of human archetypes. A way to take more powerful action.
For the person with gate 39 in their mercury, maybe rubbing people the wrong way is an invitation to stop taking responsibility for other people’s feelings. Try it and see.
For the projector, maybe you’d get better results by hanging out in spaces where other people already appreciate the kind of wisdom, insight, and vision that lives within you instead of wasting energy on instagram. Try it and see.
For the 5/1, maybe people projecting their trauma is a way to help you see where the most heroic thing to do is walk away from people expecting you to save them from themselves. Try it and see.
Your human Design isn’t the reason. It isn’t a diagnosis. And, for the love of all things holy, isn’t a rule book.
It gives you a way to work with the human experience in a more powerful and resourceful way.
The map isn’t there to explain life away. It’s there to help you meet life as it is. With both feet on the ground, eyes wide open, and your hands on the wheel. That is the magick.
