And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud became more painful than the risk it took to blossom. ~ Anais Nin
This has been a long time favorite quote of mine because it’s so true.
When we aim to live with more purpose and meaning, there comes a point when we must face some really uncomfortable truths. And in my decades of experience as a master energy healer, Human Design is one of the best tools for seeing the exact places where we are in denial.
Your chart is an incredible map for seeing where you are trapped in your not self themes of frustration, bitterness, anger, and disappointment.
But, by facing these truths and integrating them into our everyday life, we open ourselves up to more satisfaction, success, peace, and delightful surprise. And who doesn’t want more of that?!?!
Here are some uncomfortable truths you may need to face to create more happiness in your life (by Human Design Type).
Uncomfortable Truths for Generators
- Saying “yes” to everything leads to frustration. We live in a culture that worships at the altar of “YES.” But, when it comes to having sustainable energy that creates satisfaction, its important to remember that not all opportunities are for you. Some of them are for helping you build your “no” muscle.
- Waiting to respond might feel passive but it’s actually the most powerful way to create a deeply rewarding life. The world conditions you to initiate, to go get um, and to take action no matter what. But forcing yourself to act when there is no sustainable energy to do so is basically begging for burnout. When you wait, it’s like signaling to the universe that you are no longer willing to settle for less than being wildly in love with your life.
- Satisfaction comes from the sacred balance of challenge and flow. In fact, it is often said that you can’t get into flow without challenge. That is because as a Generator, overcoming obstacles, when they are deeply aligned with your most authentic direction, add to your satisfaction, rather than taking away from it.

Uncomfortable Truths for Manifesting Generators
In addition to everything I said about the Generator…
- Skipping steps creates more work later AND it’s still important that you do it. Part of your magic is creating efficiency where it has not existed before. And you do that by fucking around and finding out. So, it might be frustrating when you realize you skipped an important step and now you have to fix it. But, now you have the benefit of actually knowing what is truly necessary and what isn’t. You can’t create NEW efficiencies without that awareness.
- Like a manifestor, informing might feel like a drag. But, it really allows you to move at lightning speed, which ultimately will feel more satisfying to you. So, get comfortable with the discomfort and let people know what you’re up to. That is how they will know to get out of your way!
- You may not finish everything you start and you need to walk away when the energy wanes. In some cases, you might come back later and in other cases, maybe not. But either way, your are likely to be multi-passionate and want to do a lot of different things. Its totally OK to only stick with stuff that you have the energy for.

Uncomfortable Truths for Projectors
- You WILL make people uncomfortable. There is no way around it. Not even with the most formal of recognition and invitation. Knowing that may feel uncomfortable for you. But you must remember that the discomfort others feel in your presence isn’t actually about you. It’s about their own alignment. The people who you are meant to guide will appreciate the discomfort that comes from your guidance. Because to them, it means they are getting back on track with what is true for them.
- Waiting for an invitation before guiding or getting into a close relationship can feel like you are being left out. But, actually, it’s more like a refinement process where your aura is filtering out the people who aren’t going to benefit from your guidance. You don’t want to just give your brilliance to any random Tom, Dick, or Harry you meet. It’s way too precious for that. Waiting ensures that when you give guidance, it creates a ripple effect for everyone involved.
- Learning to value what you SEE instead of what you DO can be hard but it’s the best thing for you. In our culture, you’ve likely been conditioned to earn worthiness stars by doing, doing, doing. And letting that go can be unnerving. But the real magic of your aura is in your unique way of seeing people, situations, problems, etc. And if you are so busy doing that you can’t even see your SEEING, no one else will be able to see it, either.

Uncomfortable Truths for Manifestors
- You can’t control how others respond to your power. Your initiating energy and boundaries can feel intimidating or polarizing. Some people will be drawn to you, others might push back. It’s not your job to manage their reactions. It is your job to be the womb and birthplace of creativity.
- Informing can feel abrasive at first it will clear obstacles on your path. You often resist informing because it feels like you’re being too controlling, rude, or even vulnerable. But, informing is like a river carving it’s way through a canyon – it makes for free flowing in the end.
- You’re not here to sustain constant creative output and “work.” Our culture has conditioned you to worship at the alter of productivity. But your energy ebbs and flows. Pushing through when you really need to rest will only hault your true creative expression from being born.

Uncomfortable Truths for Reflectors
- Attachment to a specific identity or label will lead to suffering. That doesn’t mean you won’t try on certains ways of thinking about “who you are” but walking away when they no longer fit is part of the magic of your aura. This might even include identities and roles that, socially speaking, are revered such as parent, spouse, sibling, child, or best friend. Your work is to release those attachment when disappointment starts to outweigh your delightful surprise.
- Your process is slow. And people are absolutely going to try to push to you make moves faster. While that may suck, it’s also an essential part of what it means to be a mirror of integrity. Its taking whatever time you need and letting others do whatever they will with it. And see point number one because if you are constantly surrounded with people who push you to move quickly, it’s likely time to let go.
- Your environment – people, places, lifestyle choices – are essential to your wellbeing and recognizing when you are in an unhealthy environment will trigger grief. In Alchemy, there is a phase of the process called fermentation and what I tell people is that for wine to be made, the grape must die. That is what is happening when you realize you aren’t in a healthy situation. The grape (the version of you that stays in an unhealthy environment) but the wine (your next iteration) is being born. Both things will be true at the same time. And that paradox is hard for any human hold. But you were built for it. Trust that.
