Listen.
I need to bust a serious fucking myth right now.
There seems to be this crazy-ass idea that when you are “following your truth” or “living in alignment” that you will somehow be magically free from self-doubt, confusion, and wondering if what you are doing really matters.
I don’t know who originally conjured up that piece-a-shit idea but it’s 100% wrong.
Believing that your “negative” emotions are somehow proof that you are on the “wrong” path only ADDS MORE confusion and doubt PLUS a heaping pile of guilt and shame on the side.
When we look at the Human Design chart, particularly the head center, we can see that doubt, confusion, and wonder are just a part of what it means to be human.
Doubt comes from gate 63.
Confusion comes from gate 64.
Wonder comes from gate 61.
In particular, the head center is “inspired” with questions that lead to those states.
You cannot stop the questions.
And it doesn’t matter if they are defined in your chart or not.
If 64, 61, and/or 63 are defined, it just means that you have a tendency towards asking the same types of questions over and over again.
But, if you have them undefined, you are more likely to “pull-in” a variety of questions from others and the transits.
For example, I have gate 61 defined in my chart. It’s in my incarnation cross in the unconscious sun placement.
This means that I have a tendency to ask the same type of question, over and over again. Gate 61, in particular, asks why.
I often find myself asking things like:
- Why is this happening?
- Does it matter?
- Why are we here?
The questions arise from my own inner being. They are consistently there.
But someone with an undefined gate 61 might find themselves asking all manner of “why” type questions.
One day they might be asking themselves (or others) why the sky is blue. The next day, they might be asking why the world is going to hell in a hand basket. Then, when they read my emails, they might be pondering why they ignore their inner wisdom.
The “variety” in their questions will be much broader and more likely influenced by the questions being asked around them.
This is really important to understand because questions are like magic wands.
When the head center asks a question, the ajna wants to immediately get to work on answering.
And guess what?
If you are asking shitty questions, your ajna will come up with a metric-fuck ton of shitty answers.
But when you are asking powerful questions, you will get illuminating (gate 47), transforming (gate 24), and forgiving (gate 4) answers.
And here is the secret:
You do that by BEING WITH the questions instead of rushing to find answers. You make space to let the question deeply unfold. You stay with the question until you discover two things:
- The essence of the question.
- The direction of the question.
For example, if you are asking yourself:
Why do things never work out for me?
Without awareness, the question will spin the ajna into all sorts of directions.
You’ll start thinking about your shitty childhood. Or that life isn’t fair. Or that you are broken, wrong, and flawed.
But, if you make some space for that question, notice where it takes you, and get “under it”, you can actually USE that question as inspiration.
You will start to notice that the question is actually stemming from a desire for transformation, for believing in yourself, for trusting the Divine Mystery of Life just a little bit more.
You will start to notice that:
Why do things never work out for me?
Isn’t actually that useful. It wastes your energy. It hijacks your focus. It leads you to take actions that produce shitty results.
With those two pieces of information:
- The essence = desire for transformation, belief, and trust
- The direction = disempowering actions
You can start asking better questions like:
- What am I learning from this experience and how can I apply that learning in my life?
- What would full belief in myself look like in this situation?
- How can I lean into trust that this is happening FOR ME instead of TO ME?
These are the types of questions that produce CLARITY.
These are the types of questions that “rewire your brain” and lead to empowering actions.
They help you REMEMBER who the fuck you really are.
You are a unique facet of the Divine that is here to make a contribution in this world JUST by BEING yourself.
And please, don’t lie to yourself. You KNOW who you are. You’ve just been ignoring your knowing. You’ve forgotten.
So, do yourself a favor.
Give yourself the space to really BE WITH the questions your brain is working on.
Find their essence and decide if the direction they send you is the direction you want to be going.
If not, ask a better question.
